World’s First: Multicoloured PET Bottles from GIZEH

The new PET bottles are based on innovative multi-component blanks (so-called “preforms”) which were developed by Inotech Kunststoff GmbH, a GIZEH partner company in Naburg, Germany.
Up to now these special preforms could only be processed on stretch blow moulding machines with microwave heating. Even heating of the different colour components was only considered to be feasible with this special heating system.

Now GIZEH developers have succeeded for the first time in equipping a conventional two-stage stretch blow moulding plant with infrared heating in such a way that perfect results are obtained with the blanks. Thus GIZEH is able to perform series manufacturing of multicolour PET bottles on a conventional system.

“This new technology opens up completely new optical and tactile design possibilities for PET bottles,” stressed Daniel Rüth, head of GIZEH PET GmbH. For the first time, the bottles can now be blown in attractive colour combinations or be realized in transparency and colour combinations. And even handling elements such as, for instance, soft or anti-slide gripping zones are currently under development. In addition, there are also new technical possibilities: If desired, an antibacterial inner wall coating increases the shelf life of the filled product. Furthermore, brand and product protection can be improved through hidden injected security pigments.

“We tried out different design possibilities during the test runs and obtained very good results,” said Rüth. “The product offers great potential in particular for customers from the beverage and food industry as well as for cosmetics, household and technical liquids.” The new PET bottles are available from GIZEH with immediate effect. Currently, initial negotiations with prospective customers are already in progress.
